500 SERIES CONVENTIONAL OIL SEPARATORS:ACCESSIBLE IMPINGEMENT
The 500 Series Conventional Oil Separators are impingement screen-type conventional oil separators. In these units, the compressed mass flow enters a larger separator chamber, which lowers the velocity of the mass. The atomized oil droplets then collect on the impingement screen surface. As the oil droplets become larger, they fall to the bottom of the separator oil reservoir.
* The 500 Series is designed for the OEM who needs oil separation and accessibility to the unit for filter changes.
* The 600 Series is designed for the OEM who needs oil separation but does not require the accessibility of the 500 Series.
Installation Instructions for All 500 series, Oil Separators
500-600 Series Sizing Chart
1. Locate the separator in a warm, draft free area, or wrap separator with insulation.
2. Install the separator in a vertical position, close to the compressor, in between
compressor and condenser, upstream (before) of any bypass piping.
3. Clamp and support separator and piping properly to minimize vibration potential.
4. Lines into and out of separator must be the same size diameter as separator
connection size.
5. Be careful of location as not to impede future service.
6. Charge the separator with the recommend amount of oil through the outlet
connection before starting the system.
7. Keep separator cool when brazing.
8. If oil separator is lower than the condenser, take precautions to keep liquid
refrigerant out of separator.
9. Check oil level on new installations frequently.
